Welcome to our blog. Check back for frequent updates on happenings in the Tetons!

There are plenty of great outdoor pursuits in the Tetons, but simply going for a walk in the mountains can’t be matched. Yesterday we hiked up Fossil to check out the view.
Fossil (10,916) is one of the five peaks above Death Canyon shelf and is accessed through Darby Canyon. Using the Mount Bannon topo, the trail to Fossil follows the eastern edge of the South Fork of Darby Creek drainage. Although the trail to Fossil from the junction to the Wind Cave is somewhat hard to follow, the terrain is easy to walk and the handrails hard to miss.
Access to Fossil peak is from the saddle between Fossil and peak 10,336 with a easy, albeit wobbly scree and boulder field. The views from the top of the broad peak can’t be beat!

Well, we’ve had a cool wet spring but the flowers are starting to peek out and Yostmark is stocked with summer product for all your mountain activities.
Some of the things we are most excited about are in the shoe department. Check out the Vasque Fivefingers shoes that are getting national press and are changing the way shoes will be made in the future. Lars does all his workouts in a pair of Fivefingers and says they working muscles in his feet and legs he never knew he had.
And, from La Sportiva we have the mens’s and women’s Wildcat trail running shoe. This baby is very well cushioned and will provide a great platform for those slick trails. As always we have a great selection of casual clothing and all the technical gear for your mountain activities.

This spring I swaggered out the van with a Thule Ascent box and Revolver bike rack and hit the road with the family for corn skiing, climbing and camping in the Eastern Sierra of California. As it rained and snowed in Teton Valley, we had a little respite from mud season with sunny California weather in the 70s.
I spent a few days guiding with my old friend Tim Villanueva from the Bardini Foundation, which was founded in the memory of my good friend Allan Bard who died while guiding the Grand. For over 15 years I’ve spend my spring in the Eastern Sierra. By far, it has the best spring corn skiing in the west and excellent apres skiing on Tim’s back porch.
We spent some time bouldering and climbing in the Buttermilks. Check out Leo’s moves. He loved the Black Diamond Wiz Kid harness that he can grow in to. We also cruised down to Mt. Whitney and camped for a few days. We tried our Mountain Hardware Habitat 5 which was spacious enough for the four of us and the kids’ ability to sleep perpendicular. It was also bomber enough to withstand some super wind gusts. The kids stayed nice and warm in their Mountain Goat sleeping bags. Finally, we ended our trip with a steam engine ride on the historic Northern Nevada Railway in Ely, NV.
When we got back to Teton Valley, I took advantage of the cool spring with powder skiing. Chris Lander and I had some sweet turns at GT, check it out.

AJ had an unbelievable tour with Greg Young on April 6th–fat, fast powder with bigger and bigger face shots as the day progressed. Seems winter was just a little late.

AJ took Chris Lindsay into the North Fork of Teton Canyon for a super fun 3-day snowboarding trip this weekend. We had cold nights but bright sunny days, and we found good powder on Table Mountain! The snowpack might be thin down low, but up high the skiing is still really good.

AJ got to do some exploring up Teton Canyon with Greg for a couple of gorgeous days, and finally got to go snowboarding with two riders! Rob and Justin were vacationing from Virginia, and spent their first day in the backcountry south of Teton Pass.

Greg aims for Table Mountain, with the Grand Teton in the background.

Mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Telemark Festival!
For over 20 years Clair Yost and Yostmark hosted Nordic Fest, a one day ski race/costume party that had its own special following. In 2006 we partnered with Grand Targhee and Black Diamond to put on one of the best tele instruction clinics in the West that includes a backcountry day and finishes with the trademark costume party/race.
Top instructors including Yostmark’s Rich Rinaldi will be instructing the finesse of the tele turn so you can rip it up in all conditions as you free your heel.
Join us for March 5-8, 2010 for the tele event of the season!
